$30.00 Vak: The Divine Speech and the Sounds of Sanskrit

Enrich your practice and/or your teaching with authenticity and reverence. The sacred language of Sanskrit is a powerful vehicle for connecting practitioners to primordial sound and to an experience of the divine through spoken word. Learn about the symbolism behind the sounds, the pauses, and the way the syllables come together and how to connect to the deeper meaning when we speak them out loud.

In this morning workshop, explore the cosmological theories behind this ancient and beautiful language — written in Devanagari, the "script of the Gods" — and how Sanskrit itself is considered a living expression of divinity through its vibration and sound.

During the workshop we will

  • Investigate how sound and vibration move through the body and its subtle energies, and how they link to spiritual experience.
  • Learn the esoteric meanings beyond the syllables (letters), pauses, and vibration, and the way sounds join in words.
  • Examine how this sacred sonic connection informs the mantras we chant in yoga practice.

  • Dive into Sanskrit symbology and the four levels of divine speech (Vak as a pathway to understanding the subtle power of sound, communication, and mantra.

  • Explore the sounds of Sanskrit in practice, focusing on pronunciation of commonly used terms, and the deeper etymological roots of the words we encounter.

This workshop is open to all: yoga teachers, teachers in training, yoga students, and anyone with a love for yoga and its depths.
